Too funny - let it load first!

From Renee Garcia

Amie is about to grow!

Amie had 8 Peanut Butter crackers between 2 and 4 am... and she has had 6 more between 8 and 830 this am.

6 of these crackers = 200 calories... what does this translate for a 28 pound human?

Eating habits of the northern California child.

Why did the 4 year old and the 20 month old ask for food at 9 am, 920, 1010, 1030, 11, 1130 and then finally when fed their request at 12, they didn't eat it? (Bagel w/cream cheese and cut up apple - a favorite!)

Now it is almost 1 and they are asking for peanut butter crackers.

"UH, NO! Your lunch is still on the table! Go eat that! Don't just lick the cream cheese off! Eat the whole bagel! Stop punching holes in the apple with that pencil! Give me that pencil!"

I need a nap!

Still conflicted about home ownership.

So the home we were interested in - is still on the market. Do we invest in this troubled market?

Do we rent until the insurance runs out? Dare I move and fall in love with another house, only to lose it in 2 years?

Recipe

The yummiest meal we eat is Black Beans and Rice. It costs under $5 for the whole meal.

Ingredients:
1 box Rice a Roni (chicken flavor-blue box) or generic equivalent - $1
1 can Black beans or 1/2 lb of reconstituted... but canned is easier - $.50
1/2 c. salsa - $.50
1 bunch cilantro - $1
Garlic Salt to taste
Serve with tortilla chips and/or tortillas $2

Cook Rice according to box directions, reducing water by 1/4 c and adding salsa. Finely chop cilantro and drain black beans then add them to the very hot rice. Salt to taste. Serve with Tortilla chips/tortillas...

Estimated time to prepare 30 mins.

Some day I will post a picture.

Lonely

The girls have been taking turns at being sick... So going outside of the home has been limited. It is snowing again... so going outside of the home is limited. It is going to snow for 3 more days... so going outside of the home is going to be limited.

Last week my wonderful mother in law, Jann, came and washed all my dishes, folded all my clothes, and kept the girls from killing each other while I slept... for a whole week!

I miss the company... and the nap!

Who is who?

Back in July 2006, I posted this picture:Now compare "little John" to these:OK, yes... it looks like he could EAT the other babies... But who does he look like 1,2 or 3?

Finally, a birth story.

The following story contains information that may be inappropriate for some readers.
Reader discretion is advis
ed.

I knew I was 42 weeks... My family Dr. recommended that I get checked out at the local hospital. We had planned on a home birth. Thursday 2/7 we went to the hospital. The hospital determined (through a sonogram) that I was only 38 weeks... But if you measured the outside of the uterus, it measured 43 cm... or 43 weeks. The sonogram also estimated the baby's weight at 7 lbs 8oz. We also were told it's a boy! The hospital kept me overnight for observation... and discharged me at 10 am, Friday 2/8, informing me I was not in labor.

My wonderful husband and oldest daughter picked me up and we went to Walmart to buy boy stuff. We then went to the local Chinese food restaurant, ate chow mein and purchased fried calimari for our dedicated childcare, Becky. (She has watched 1-3 children on and off through this whole ordeal.) We then went home and all 5 of us slept until 3:30 when I sat up with a contraction. I stood up and noticed a difference. Soon I was asking my wonderful husband to remove the shower doors. (I may have asked for the bathroom doors to be removed) He was getting his tools out... when I clarified that the shower doors being removed would assist in getting me and a baby out of the tub.

I spent the next hour listening to loud music and trying to avoid "fighting" the contractions. My wonderful husband checked on me regularly... soon it was apparent that the children needed to leave. I was quickly loosing my mind and wanting to run around crazy. (A sure sigh that I am close) Jason, my wonderful husband, called everyone and managed to wrangle a crazy swap where a teenager would watch Becky's kids and Becky would run her errands with my kids.

With the children gone, I was no longer putting on a brave face. I wanted the hospital and drugs and was actually on the phone with the hospital when the baby started crowning. I threw the phone to my WONDERFUL husband.

(NOTE: This next part is gross) I was sitting on my new recliner with only minimal protection over it. I was huffing and puffing and trying so hard to get off the recliner. (Note: there was a blanket on the floor that I was aiming for.) My body gave me about 30 seconds of rest to move and then I pushed out his head. I had another 30 seconds of rest. I didn't think my water broke, so I was feeling the top of his soft head. We were also feeling for a cord around his neck. The next push and out came a baby into his papas eager hands. I couldn't see my WONDERFUL husband, but his voice was giddy. This was the first time a baby was properly positioned and came out the normal textbook way! (Maggie - chin to her chest, Abbie - posterior, Amie - posterior and face first.) I must admit it was easier to push than the other 3!

The hospital called back and asked if everything was ok... my WONDERFUL husband informed them we were fine and not coming in. Calls to family were made, and there was much rejoicing. Becky and her husband, returned our children and all basked in the new baby glow.

Jonathan Gregory was born on his great-grandma's birthday 2/8/08 and on Monday 2/11/08 he weighed 9 lbs 15.5 oz and measured 21 inches long.

So Abbie bursts into my room this morning and informs me that my aunt "Titi" is dead. These are the first words I hear at 7 am from my 4 year old. She runs off when I crumple and cry. Then bursts back in and says, "Aunt Becky isn't dead!" (Thank you for trying to comfort me baby)

Siblings

Amie and Abbie are attached at the hip and love each other very much (TOO MUCH TELETUBBIES!).

Amie was sitting playing with a toy hippo and eating graham crackers. Abbie was eating graham crackers and asked for the hippo. Amie handed it to her... and Abbie walked off. Amie just said, "Oh..."

I asked Abbie, "Why did you take the hippo?"

Abbie's reply: "Because she didn't scream or cry."

Shouldn't everyone?

Amie is compelled to tackle naked people. Every time one of her sisters gets out of the bath, Amie runs around them, grabs them around the waist and drops to her knees. Sometimes she will just get drug around the house by her much larger sisters. Much laughter is had by all... especially when the entire neighborhood hears Maggie scream, "Amie, let go of my bottom!"

Nevermind

Sorry about the previous bulletin. I was in a bad state of mind. It is really hard to get 75% through escrow and then drop everything and walk away. God must have a plan.

Housing Plea

So I don't have a large blog fan base... but I will still ask... It doesn't hurt.

Our original home loan was 100% financing. We qualified for it easily. Problem is... our town didn't. Cal HFA doesn't fund loans for homes in depressed, recessed, or declining areas. Our town has all 3 boxes checked as well as overabundant supply and over 6 months on the market...

So to get the home that we have been trying to get it will cost about $6000 (+ or - a few hundred) . We need to find this money in the next 2 weeks.

So if you wish to donate the money to our church and get a tax credit... or give us a loan that we won't be able to pay back for 1 year... we would greatly appreciate it.

Cold

So we may have run out of propane today... I realized it was cold between 5 and 6 when the end of my nose was cold... Jason informed me that the heater wasn't working. Bummer!

If it is not a propane issue... I cannot imagine what is wrong with a 4 month old heater....

Pray for escrow!!! 10 business days and counting!

MMMM fresh!

So yesterday was Maggie's birthday dinner. She had steak, potatoes, broccoli and garlic bread. (All of her favorite things)

Unfortunately she ate 3 servings of broccoli... and today, the family is paying the price. During our evening story time, Maggie was fumigating the room... Jason is gaging... I am laughing... and Abbie states, "Smells good."

Abbie makes my brain hurt!

Abbie: How old is Amie's head?

Mama: Her head is 1 year old... like the rest of her!?!

Abbie: I really think it is still zero.

Mama: No, her head had a birthday just like the rest of her.

Abbie: But her head is only as tall as this. (places hand above Amie's head)

Mama: Abbie, She is tall enough to be one... and so is her head.

Abbie: She is a baby until she turns five.

Mama: Ok.

I have had these dresses since OCTOBER... it is about time I took some pictures to send to family. They have been emailed to the local photo shop and will be ready tomorrow for pickup!!! (Now if only my oldest two girls will stop stealing my postage stamps!!!

AWWWW CRAP!

Abbie is very interested in classical music. She wants to listen to music that is Adagio... (YES, she knows what Adagio is- Thank you DISNEY CHANNEL!) Unfortunately, while I have a vast library of classical music... few are of the slow, funeral dirge, adagio that her taste demands.

SO... my Itunes program shuffled through all the classical music... it came upon Brandenburg, Concerto #6. (Yeah... like you even know what that is!!!) And she comes to me and INFORMS me, "This is Moderato." And pats my arm.

So January 18th!!! We will be home owners!!!

Jeremiah 29

It has been over 2 years since I started reading Jeremiah. Most of the book is very negative. But this passage finally broke through.

4 This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: 5 "Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. 6 Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. 7 Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper." 8 Yes, this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: "Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have. 9 They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them," declares the LORD.

10 This is what the LORD says: "When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. 11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity. [b] I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile."

We have always questioned, “Should we buy a home?” “What if we are called somewhere else?”

Like most young families, we have lived a very nomadic life. We have moved approximately every 2 years since we married. This is very stable compared to friends who are in the military or still going to school. But we still wait, with our suitcases packed, dreaming of the next “Shiny” or bigger better thing. In verse 8, are we pushing the envelope by pressing on to the next big thing, when we should be staying and doing what God told us to?

To be successful at a job or career, you must have some longevity. Ministry is no exception. While my husband is passionate about training up leadership from within, I feel that the most successful ministries have the same leaders for decades. (Read Jason’s article on Leadership training)

I believe that God is telling us to settle down. I am very passionate about gardening, but after having to leave Oak View and watching all that work disappear, I couldn’t start a new garden. I have been here for over 2 years and not done more than water the church lawn. So verse 5 really calls to me.

Also, verse 7 reminds me not to be angry about our flawed county and school system, but to do what is best and to pray for them. If our county prospers, we will prosper.

So today we are putting in an offer for a home we really want. If it is God’s will, we will be homeowners and permanent members of the town. It will be a testimony to the surrounding community, who constantly question with every disaster, that we are here to stay.

Please pray for our sanity as we juggle an offer, home loan application and possibly escrow in this tumultuous market.

House dreams

Pray for our sanity. There is a house on the market and we are desperately WANTING IT! It is 3 br/2ba and built in 1978. So it is one of the newest houses in town. It is bank owned and being offered at 100k below last years price... EEEK! There may be a bidding war!!! Should we jump in? Am I too emotionally involved? Any advice?

Abbie's first Joke

Abbie is notorious for, "Knock, Knock" and getting no answer...

But she is gradually putting a second line in. "Who is there?" Abbie: "Uh, (looking around the room) Shoe!" (Mama smiles politely)

Today-

Abbie: Knock, Knock.

Mama: Who's there?

Abbie: (Looking around the room) Owl!

Mama: Owl who?

Abbie: No, Owls say who!

Mama and Maggie laughed and told her what a good joke!!!

Sustenance

Sustain. According to Wikipedia: Sustain is a parameter of musical sound in time. As its name implies, it denotes the period of time during which the sound is sustained before it becomes inaudible.

I need something to Sustain me before I become inaudible. I am tired. The spiritual oppression that surrounds me and my family is overwhelming.

If one more person "reminds me" to "give it to God" I will cause physical harm. (JUST A WARNING) This also includes handing me literature and articles on the topic.

Every night, as the evil swirls around us and I am reminded of everything we have lost and everything that is going wrong, I weep. I don't even pray. I can only see His hand reaching out to me. I touch his fingertips with mine and whisper, "Jesus" over and over until I fall to sleep. This is as close to "giving it to God" as I am going to get right now.

From Maggie

Maggie practices writing at school... sometimes she shoots off on a tangent and I must ask the teacher the assignment. But this one was clear - "I love my..."

"I love my moma because she can make fire. I love my papa because he can make hot chocolate. I love my sister because she is silly. I love my baby because she is cute."

Note: I assume she values my ease at heating the house.... not burning it down.

Fruit of the god's

Amie loves fruit. Especially pears. We currently have organic, wax free, crimson anjou pears. We get a case delivered once a month for 1/4 of what you pay for yucky pears at Safeway.

So our pears are all VERY RIPE this week and perfect in Amie's opinion. She calls everything worthy, "Ball"(Her favorite things are round). After her 4th piece of pear this AM... she asks for "MORE" (Megalomaniac with English accent) she holds up the piece of pear up above her head... and looks up at it whispering.... "Ball".

Christmas Blessing

It is very hard to find your stuff when it is all thrown out the windows by fire fighters. But my Mother in Law and Sister in Law went through the stuff that wasn't thrown outside...

All our Christmas decorations (Many made by my great-grandma) and stockings (Made and personalized by Jason's grandma) were all safe and dry. They aren't even dirty or smoky!

OK... I know you have at least one of these!

Today's bible reading

Psalm 37

Of David.
1 [a] Do not fret because of evil men
or be envious of those who do wrong;

2 for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.

3 Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

4 Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:

6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when men succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.

8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.

9 For evil men will be cut off,
but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.

10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more;
though you look for them, they will not be found.

11 But the meek will inherit the land
and enjoy great peace.

12 The wicked plot against the righteous
and gnash their teeth at them;

13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked,
for he knows their day is coming.

14 The wicked draw the sword
and bend the bow
to bring down the poor and needy,
to slay those whose ways are upright.

15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts,
and their bows will be broken.

16 Better the little that the righteous have
than the wealth of many wicked;

17 for the power of the wicked will be broken,
but the LORD upholds the righteous.

18 The days of the blameless are known to the LORD,
and their inheritance will endure forever.

19 In times of disaster they will not wither;
in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.

20 But the wicked will perish:
The LORD's enemies will be like the beauty of the fields,
they will vanish—vanish like smoke.

21 The wicked borrow and do not repay,
but the righteous give generously;

22 those the LORD blesses will inherit the land,
but those he curses will be cut off.

23 If the LORD delights in a man's way,
he makes his steps firm;

24 though he stumble, he will not fall,
for the LORD upholds him with his hand.

25 I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.

26 They are always generous and lend freely;
their children will be blessed.

27 Turn from evil and do good;
then you will dwell in the land forever.

28 For the LORD loves the just
and will not forsake his faithful ones.
They will be protected forever,
but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off;

29 the righteous will inherit the land
and dwell in it forever.

30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom,
and his tongue speaks what is just.

31 The law of his God is in his heart;
his feet do not slip.

32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous,
seeking their very lives;

33 but the LORD will not leave them in their power
or let them be condemned when brought to trial.

34 Wait for the LORD
and keep his way.
He will exalt you to inherit the land;
when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.

35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man
flourishing like a green tree in its native soil,

36 but he soon passed away and was no more;
though I looked for him, he could not be found.

37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright;
there is a future [b] for the man of peace.

38 But all sinners will be destroyed;
the future [c] of the wicked will be cut off.

39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble.

40 The LORD helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.

Chicken Poo diaries

It is no secret (Especially on this blog) that our lives have been turned upside down in the last year or so...

So my husband was driving home from Thanksgiving alone in his truck and hit a deer. It cracked the whole headlight on the drivers side.

So today he is pulled over by the CHP and issued a "fix it" ticket.

Unfortunately the Registration was due 9/30/07... our house burned down 9/7/07. This is a piece of paperwork that was ONCE AGAIN lost in the pile of chicken poo that is our life.

So now we have to pay WAY too much money for late registration... we have a ticket on top of that! The whole headlight is going to cost only $295!

Things churches should understand.

In economically depressed areas filled with drugs... it is important to get a ministry team that are "called" to that type of people.

Our church building had another church in it years ago. The previous pastors and elders in ministry had apparently been Christians all their life. They had no experience with meth addicts. So they were always trying to go door to door and hand out all sorts of information and on one occasion light bulbs with scripture "Light of the world" and the plan of salvation on the box. It would have been a good idea... (We found a box of left over light bulbs in the attic)

But a person who has seen meth in use would know that a light bulb is a method of delivery. (I will not explain rolleyes.gif No, I never tried crack... but had stupid friends!) So the previous ministry team gave out free light bulbs to lovingly spread the Word and assist in the meth use.

No one in our current ministry team knew either. So I think every church should have a Christian (Yet experienced in the ways of the world) on their ministry team as a consultant.

I walk into the living room with a towel on my head...

Abbie: Mama, what is under your towel?

Mama: I have a monkey under my towel.

Abbie: NO! What is under your towel?

Mama: How about a taco?

Abbie: Do you have an accordion under your towel?

Mama: Ouch... my brain!

Just for fun- Emphasis has been added

I was born in the year of the horse:
People born in the Year of the Horse are popular. They are cheerful, skillful with money, and perceptive, although they sometimes talk too much. The are wise, talented, good with their hands, and sometimes have a weakness for members of the opposite sex. They are impatient and hot-blooded about everything except their daily work. They like entertainment and large crowds. They are very independent and rarely listen to advice. They are most compatible with Tigers, Dogs, and Sheep.
Jason was born in the year of the tiger:
Tiger people are sensitive, given to deep thinking, capable of great sympathy. They can be extremely short-tempered, however. Other people have great respect for them, but sometimes tiger people come into conflict with older people or those in authority. sometimes Tiger people cannot make up their minds, which can result in a poor, hasty decision or a sound decision arrived at too late. They are suspicious of others, but they are courageous and powerful. Tigers are most compatible with Horses, Dragons, and Dogs.

Maggie was born in the year of the dragon:
People born in the Year of the Dragon are healthy, energetic, excitable, short-tempered, and stubborn. They are also honest, sensitive, brave, and they inspire confidence and trust. Dragon people are the most eccentric of any in the eastern zodiac. They neither borrow money nor make flowery speeches, but they tend to be soft-hearted which sometimes gives others an advantage over them. They are compatible with Rats, Snakes, Monkeys, and Roosters.

Abbie was born in the year of the ram/sheep:
People born in the Year of Ram are elegant and highly accomplished in the arts. They seem to be, at first glance, better off than those born in the zodiac's other years. But ram year people are often shy, pessimistic, and puzzled about life. They are usually deeply religious, yet timid by nature. Sometimes clumsy in speech, they are always passionate about what they do and what they believe in. Ram people never have to worry about having the best in life for their abilities make money for them, and they are able to enjoy the creature comforts that they like. Ram people are wise, gentle, and compassionate. They are compatible with Rabbits, Pigs, and Horses.
Amie was born in the year of the dog:
People born in the Year of the Dog possess the best traits of human nature. They have a deep sense of loyalty, are honest, and inspire other people¡¦s confidence because they know how to keep secrets. But Dog People are somewhat selfish, terribly stubborn, and eccentric. They care little for wealth, yet somehow always seem to have money. They can be cold emotionally and sometimes distant at parties. They can find fault with many things and are noted for their sharp tongues. Dog people make good leaders. They are compatible with those born in the Years of the Horse, Tiger, and Rabbit.
