Christmas without a tree

We have a tree... santa and the whole 9 yards. We have a happy birthday Jesus party. My 4 year old knows it is Jesus' Birth day. But she also believes that Jesus is God's son/super hero who saved us. Santa just brings us presents to remember Jesus' b-day. Her theology is seriously off... but we like the magic of her believing in super heros like Jesus saving us. We live in a heathen town and use our tree and our "Happy birthday Jesus" party at church to reach those who don't know. "I will become all things, That I may save one." I don't believe I am going to disgrace the kingdom of God with a tree with Crosses and hand made cherrio ornaments.

One Christmas we recieved 12 inches of rain in 24 hours. We needed to make it home... or else we would be trapped for days in the next town. The highway had already split in half. I told Maggie that she needed to stop talking so we could pray because the road was trying to slide down the hill. After praying she said that, "Santa came to keep our car on the road." When we got home, she jumped out of the car and asked, "Where's Santa?" I asked what he looked like. She said, "You know, white hair and beard like gramps!" That night 1/2 of the highway slid off into the creek and a 75 foot sink hole took out the other end of the highway. We were trapped (AT HOME thank you Jesus) for 9 days.

I believe kids can see what is unseen. And when we don't believe them... that wonder and magic disapears forever. Just like in the polar express movie. We teach children our unbelief.
